Tungnath and Chandrashila are one of the most popular and revered trekking destinations in Uttarakhand, India. Tour Plan
Day 1: Arrival at Rishikesh & Drive to Sari Village
- Arrival: Arrive at Rishikesh, a spiritual hub located on the banks of the Ganges River.
- Drive to Sari Village: After arrival, travel to Sari Village (approximately 6-7 hours drive), the base point for the Tungnath and Chandrashila trek. Sari Village is a quaint and peaceful hamlet surrounded by lush green landscapes.
- Overnight: Stay in a guesthouse or camp at Sari Village.
Day 2: Trek to Tungnath Temple
- Morning: After breakfast, begin the trek from Sari Village to Tungnath. The trek is approximately 3.5 km (around 5-6 hours), which passes through dense forests of oak and rhododendron, offering breathtaking views of the Kedarnath Range.
- Lunch: Enjoy a packed lunch en route or upon reaching the Tungnath Temple.
- Tungnath Temple Visit: Upon reaching Tungnath, visit the famous Tungnath Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple, situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters, is one of the Panch Kedar temples and is considered highly sacred.
- Evening: After exploring the temple, spend some time soaking in the tranquility of the place and enjoying the views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks.
- Overnight: Stay at a guesthouse or campsite near the Tungnath Temple.
Day 3: Trek to Chandrashila Summit & Return to Sari Village
- Early Morning: After breakfast, begin the final leg of the trek to Chandrashila, which is approximately 1.5 km from Tungnath Temple (2-3 hours of trekking). The path is steep but offers spectacular views as you ascend.
- Chandrashila Summit: Upon reaching the summit of Chandrashila, you will be rewarded with panoramic views of the Himalayan ranges, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Kedarnath. The summit is considered sacred, and trekkers often meditate here for peace and solitude.
- Lunch: Enjoy a packed lunch at the summit or start descending back to Tungnath.
- Return to Sari Village: After spending time at the summit, return to Tungnath and then descend to Sari Village.
- Evening: Relax and unwind after the long trek.
- Overnight: Stay at a guesthouse or campsite in Sari Village.
Day 4: Drive Back to Rishikesh & Departure
- Morning: After breakfast, depart from Sari Village and drive back to Rishikesh.
- Afternoon: Reach Rishikesh and enjoy a short sightseeing tour or explore the spiritual atmosphere by visiting Parmarth Niketan or Triveni Ghat.
- Departure: Depending on your travel schedule, you can either relax for a while or head to the Dehradun Airport (1.5 hours) or Haridwar Railway Station (1 hour) for your return journey.
